Greetings.
My name is Marcelo Gutierrez.
This website serves as a resource for track cycling’s sprint events.
After gaining an interest in 2019, I had no clue where to start. I knew little about fixed-gear racing. Counter to popular (and more accessible sports) such as athletics or football, track cycling is limited in its educational and research resources available for the public.
My intent is to share what I learn about this sport through first-hand experience training, competitions, personal research, and living the track cycling life.
As a rider, my only objective is to ride faster each year. Whatever standards my capacities reach will dictate my competitive involvement. That could mean being a local velodrome racer for life. That could also mean competing at the Olympics or Paralympics as a pilot. Of course the latter entails professionalism, commitment, and effective preparation integrations.
Upon competitive aspirations, I yearn to coach athletes from the grassroots stages to the world stage in pursuit of Olympic and Paralympic gold. A lifelong aspiration of mine is to lead young boys and girls through the Process of Achieving Sports Mastery (PASM). This is no light feat, but one that would be personally rewarding.
Track cycling, especially the sprint category, is a tight niche. Its available facilities are minuscule. The equipment will drain the bank account. Elite teams are secretive. The public research is shallow. Cyclists will work full-time jobs to fund themselves. Race attendance will be weak unless it’s a big annual or quadrennial event. Cyclists can be number one in the world and no one will know their name beyond the velodrome.
Yet, none of that deters me from the sport. I’ve chosen track cycling’s sprints as my tradecraft.
- Niche.
- Fast.
- Thighs.
- Lactate.
- Tactics.
- Science.
All things that, when taken to extremes, make sprinting on the velodrome badass.
This standard of this site is to discover, apply, and share with the world what it takes to sprint a bike on a velodrome at record-breaking speeds.
Committed to mastery,
M.A. Gutierrez
